Washington: GPO, 1915. 729p, cloth, illus., slight wear to edges, vg. See Brockett, p. 1474. This volume contains the beginnings of the Smithsonian-Orville Wright controversy. On p. 9 Smithsonian Secretary Charles D. Walcott wrote "The tests thus far made have shown that the late Secretary Langley had succeeded in building the first aeroplane capable of sustained free flight with a man." (See Crouch, "The Bishop's Boys," p. 485 for a full recital of the facts). This volume also contains "The First Man-Carrying Aeroplane.." by A.F. Zahm (p.217-222) and Orville Wright's "Stability of Aeroplanes," (P. 209-216).
