This monthly magazine for children began in 1873 and was edited by Mary Mapes Dodge, author of "Hans Brinker", with Frank R. Stockton as associate editor. Virtually all the major authors of stories for young people appeared in the magazine. The issues offered here were edited by William Fayal Clarke who managed the magazine from 1905 to 1927 and contain contributions by Arthur Guiterman, Helen Hegan Rice, Carolyn Wells, Albert Bigelow Paine, Hildegarde Hawthorne, Ralph Barbour, Harriet Prescott Spofford, Dorothy Canfield, and many more.
