"The American Agriculturist", founded in 1842, was one of the oldest, long-lived, and most distinguished of all American agriculture magazines. Orange Judd (182201892), a young agricultural chemist, became co-editor of the magazine and almost immediately made it a valuable contribution to scientific farming and increased its circulation dramatically. Judd became editor in 1856 and held that position until 1864. The magazine contains ads. See Mott, "A History of American Magazines", vol. 1, pp. 728-732.
