Washington: Government Printing Office, 1876. 387p, 11 1/2" X 9", boards with leather spine and corners, covers worn, soiled, front cover detached, repairs with tape and cloth, text lightly soiled, minor tears, fair. Belknap (1829-1890), a member of President Grant's Cabinet was impeached for malfeasance in office. He resigned in an effort to block his trial. Unsuccessful, he was nonetheless successful. (His impeachment required a 2/3 majority). This is considered the best account of his trial. (DAB, Vol. I).
